Menlo Park's 24th Annual Mid-Summer Festival of the Arts

WHAT:  

Craft boothConnoisseurs’ Marketplace, this vibrant, open-air festival of the arts celebrates the best of summer in style with live jazz, r&b, and rock 'n roll music, a juried show with contemporary fine art and one-of-a-kind crafts by 250 of America's best artists, chefs’ demos, artisan specialty food, health and wellness displays, a green products showcase, home and garden exhibits, festive food and drink with premium wines, microbrews, margaritas and mojitos, a new collector car showcase, a new interactive kids’ art area and the action-packed kids' fun zone. Admission is free. Presented by the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce.

  • Live Music … an eclectic, fun-filled mix of soulful Motown classics, classic rock ‘n roll, R&B groove, contemporary jazz, Caribbean steel drum and romantic Italian mandolin ballads on stage and street. The free “Saturday After-Hours Concert” will feature Pride & Joy, the Bay Area's pre-eminent party band known for their great voices, sweet harmonies, matching flashy outfits, and slick dance moves, from 5:30-8 p.m. in Fremont Park.

  • Contemporary Fine Art, Unique Crafts … 250 of America’s finest artists and craftmakers present their latest handcrafted work in ceramics, glass, fine art, photography, sculpture, jewelry, leather, textiles, metal and wood.

  • Chefs’ Demonstrations ... a festival favorite, chefs from top local restaurants prepare favorite dishes, pass out recipes and share the secrets and shortcuts to kitchen success.

  • Flavorful Food & Drink … fresh roasted corn-on-the-cob, spit-roasted gyros, spanakopita, veggie and salmon burgers, grilled cheese creations, chicken and sausage jambalaya, seafood gumbo, spicy crawfish étoufée, blackened shrimp, fried calamari with cilantro-lime sauce, barbecued oysters, crab cakes, smoked turkey legs, tri-tip and portobello mushroom sandwiches, garlic fries, stuffed mushrooms, Hawaiian shredded pork sandwiches, smoked bratwurst and Polish dogs, tamales, tacos, garlic chicken and pork kebobs, fish tacos, fish and chips, baked potatoes, kettle corn, sorbet, Italian ice and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

  • Artisan Specialty Food … sample and savor artisan-produced edibles — balsamic vinegars and oils, Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, gourmet fudge, chocolate, mustard blends, curds and scone mixes, marinades, jams and jellies, honey, butters and chutneys, vinaigrettes and dressings, flavored almonds, cashews, pistachios and pecans, dessert sauces, spices.

  • Kids’ Fun Zone … create-your-own colorful wax hands art, virtual reality motion theater, cool temporary tattoos, whimsical sand sculptures, balloon artists, face painting, inflatible bounces, carnival and train rides, a 24-foot climbing wall and interactive, hands-on art.

July 17-18, 2010. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free “Saturday After-Hours Concert” featuring Pride & Joy runs from 5:30-8 p.m. on July 17 in Fremont Park.
