Half Moon Bay Artist Debuts 2011 Pumpkin Festival Commemorative Poster

Half Moon Bay artist Ellen Joseph will debut her 2011 Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival fine art print as part of this year’s festival, October 15-16.

“Ellen is an incredible talent … we love her work and are thrilled she’ll be partnering with us by doing the official Pumpkin Festival fine art print,” said Heidi Kuiper, Festival Director.

Joseph said she painted the 2011 Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival fine art print to capture the essence of the Coastside. “Pumpkins by the Sea” features a gentle, curving path through Bob’s Pumpkin Farm along the recently-opened Cowell-Purisima Trail in Half Moon Bay.

“I wanted to create a feeling of abundance,” says Joseph, “with the bountiful wealth of agricultural life on the Coastside. It’s classic Half Moon Bay—cheerful pumpkins and mustard in the foreground, the weathered old barn, the farm stand, cypress and eucalyptus trees, the canyons, the curve of the bay, the pickup truck that transports our harvest, and a few clouds. I wanted the painting to encourage buying local produce at farm stands and farmers’ markets.”

The original 30” x 40” painting can be viewed at the Ellen Joseph Gallery, located at 840 Main Street in Half Moon Bay, during the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, October 15-16 from 9 am to 5 pm on historic Main Street.

Reproductions of the painting in a variety of formats—including heavy canvas totes made with sustainable agriculture and local farmer’s markets in mind—will be available at the Ellen Joseph and Pumpkin Festival booths located near the festival entrance. 10% of all sales will go to the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee.

Half Moon Bay business Arrowhead Framing (353 Main Street) will have “Pumpkins by the Sea” posters, fine art prints and cards for sale before, during and after the festival. Ocean Shore Hardware (111 Main Street) will be selling canvas totes.
